Specimen No. VIII turns the beetle into an object of reverence. Black bodies repeat across a pallid ground in grotesque symmetry, their shells split into heraldic markings and their limbs preserved with the care usually reserved for saints or monsters. It has the feverish precision of a Victorian collector who has spent too long arranging death into something exquisitely decorative.
- Cotton gown with curtain front and lashings of lace
- Layered skirt
- Boned bodice with underwired cups
- Nostalgic lace trims throughout
- Corseted closure for size adjustments
- Fully lined
In Specimen No. VIII, beauty has already been dissected, classified and pinned into place. Beetles repeat across the gown in black, grotesque symmetry, their bodies transformed into elaborate ornament against a pallid ground. There is something obsessive in the arrangement - the hand of a collector who has mistaken preservation for devotion.
