The Faded Grandeur Duchess gown is reminiscent of great palaces from the past, of gilt chandeliers, tatty velvet chaise longues, and decadent displays of red English roses with dried rose petals scattering the floor. The silhouette was inspired by watching the film 'The Duchess' with Keira Knightley, which explores the life of Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire. An English aristocrat, Georgiana was famed for indulged in her love for fashion, inspiring the Georgian era’s trend for elaborate, tall hairstyles. She became known for her fashionable style, beauty and hostess skills, loving nothing better than throwing fabulous parties and balls. In the film she often wears 'curtain-front' gowns, and we simply felt we must create a modern day version to honour this strong, and controversial woman.
We're now introducing the popular Duchess in our exclusive Faded Grandeur print. She was so named because she reminded us of rich historical palaces, decked out in crimson and gold hues, where Dukes and Duchesses from the past would have entertained to great excess, and lived an excessive and flamboyant lifestyle! However we decided to soften this concept to give a more whimsical and ethereal feel by lightening the shades into more muted tones to resonate with the soft royalty aesthetic which we all currently love.
